Stories&Questions |
Anne,I remember in 1998 I was so excited to see you in"Return To Paradise"when it came to my semi-little area of Waterloo,Iowa, but at the theatre I saw it at I was the only one in the place! None the less,I cried my eyes out at the end&I really enjoyed your performance, and I thought the Oscar people passing you over for a nomination was a shame&a crime! Which brings me to ask you, does it ever bother you that a lot of your films don't get promoted well enough, especially in my part of America. And 2 other questions:Do you see anymore beautiful children in your future, and since seeing the beautiful&seductive shot you did for the book"4 Inches",that got me to thinking that you don't do much nudity in films, for example I remember seeing"Wild Side"and that was pretty racy&violent. So given that you are a different person than you were 10 years ago, would you do a film like that again or be nude in a film again,or does it depend on the role. But trust me when I say, whatever role you play you do it well! Love From Your Anne Fanne,Darrell W. Robinson. |

Re: Stories&Questions |
Darrell,
Thank you for writing to me here and my husband has informed me that you have also supported me through the yahoo site. It's a funny game, this industry, and you can never tell what will get promoted or how well. I can say that I really love your enthusiasm for my work and with more fannes like you, I'm bound to get more roles and more opportunity to have one that really hits it out of the ballpark. Oscars included!
And as for the nudity, I'm not opposed, if the rold were right. But I probably wouldn't do another "Wild Side" becuase of it's sexual violence. I was not as far along in my own understanding of my abuse at the time and knowing what I know now, would probably not put myself through that again. But for a good cause? Like "4 inches" (thank you all for getting the book, by the way) or a fantasitc role? You bet, I'm happy to say my self-image is better than it's ever been and I'm not ashamed of my body any more. So bring it on!

About energy&support as far as you go Anne that is,I'll go as far as possible to spread the good word on you to anyone willing to listen! Anyway,I thought of something else,I've heard your beautiful singing voice on"Ally McBeal"&"Higglytown Heroes"(I'm not married or have kids,I just wanted to hear your voice on that show!),and I was wondering has anyone ever talked to you about doing a CD of music,I'm totally serious! I'll bet it would be fun&it would sell, especially to devoted Anne Fannes like me! And also, have you thought about writing another book, not nessarilly another one like"Call Me Crazy",but one that might be non-fiction or a continuation of your life's journey since"Call Me Crazy". Thank you so much for your kind words for my energy,it really touches my heart to no ends as to how much that means to me coming from you! I Love You Anne Heche!! Darrell W. Robinson. |

Anne, of course |
Hello Anne!
I am so excited that there is finally a way to reach you via Internet!
I have been a fan of yours since your very first day on Another World! Your performance, particularly as Vicky, was beyond words. Brilliant, is one that comes to mine! You were able to communicate to the audience that the character was not simply a ruthless witch, but really a young vulnerable woman whose fear led her to do bad things. I really loved the character.
I admittedly, did quit watching in 1990 or so, before you left. I felt the writing took a bit of a dive. Although now I miss those performances I could have seen before you left. YOU always maintained your brilliance.
I followed your career every step of the way. In 1995, I came out to myself and others as a bisexual woman. Imagine my shock and delight when I found out you were with Ellen. I almost wondered if it was meant to be. It felt so good having a role model that I had already loved.
I was saddend when the relationship ended. You both seemed SO much in love. I think it was a beautiful representation for the GLB community, but of course you couldn't stay to be a symbol. I do wish you and Ellen could have remained friends, because the friendship you had was so strong, and her Mom Betty had been like a second Mom. I wonder about that...why did Anne need to sever all ties completely? I'm sorry Anne, its not my business really, just how I felt.
ANYHOW... I am really happy for you and glad that you are in such a happy stage of life. You and Coley are so happy and have a beautiful boy, Homer.
One question I have: I know you do not label your sexuality, such as I do. I am wondering though, are you still active with GLBT issues? For instance, you and Ellen had been volunteering with gay and lesbian youth and I wondered if you still do some of that on your own or with Coley?
I found it very shameful the way some of the gay and lesbian media treated you both while you were with Ellen and after you left. I considered this Biphobia. Not being able to fathom the notion that one can fall in love regardless of gender. This really bugs me, Ani Difranco (my favorite musician) got a lot of backlash from FANS when she married her MALE engineer. She never had claimed to be a lesbian. It hurts people such as myself when they bash you, too. Because its as if they are saying my reality is insignificant.
Anne, I could go on and on all day...sorry. You are a beautiful person and I thank you for being so honest about your life and your truth.

Future Theatre |
Hi Anne, Came across your website by accident but I am glad I did. I just want to say that after I saw you and Harrison Ford in Six Days Seven Nights (for the second time) I realized that you are a remarkable actor, especially in comedic roles. You exhibit a high energy level in performances and must really work hard at your profession. For that reason, I am sorry I missed the opportunity to see you perform on stage (did not learn about your theater work until I saw your website). Any chance you will be doing live theater again in the near future, either in New York or Los Angeles? My wife and I are longtime members and contributors of the American Musical Theather in San Jose CA and wonder whether you have considered doing musicals here in the Bay Area (San Jose or San Francisco). It would be great if you did!!
Anyway, please use your website to inform us of your future plans including returning to live theater or making public appearences.
Keep up the good work that you do, Russ

Russ,
I am always looking for the right theater production. No reason not to come to the Bay area, it just has to be the right play. Thank you for enjoying my comedic roles, I love doing comedy myself.
Right now,. a less comedic role is on the air in "Sexual Life." It's a movie I did for Showtime last year and although I don't know all the times, they are running it right now.
Hope you enjoy and I'm happy you accidently found us!

Anne, your Mom is trying to say you left Ellen thanks to her prayers. Speaking at ex-gay conventions! Yuck! |
Mom, Nancy is still vocally anti-gay. She is set to speak at a convention (or maybe a few). She's bragging about the fact that she prayed for Anne to leave homosexuality. I guess she wants credit for Anne's leaving Ellen. Its an ex-gay event. Too bad she doesn't seem to GET that Anne and Ellen's breakup was not Anne REJECTING homosexuality. I think its very tasteless that she uses Anne to promote the idea that gays can change. She of course has a right to her opinion, as everyone does. But I think the ex-gay rhetoric is so damaging to kids especially who already are insecure. |

EX-GAY CONVENTIONS - YUCK! |
Carrie,
I see you have posted many things for me to read and reaspond to. Hopefully this will address a couple of your thoughts. I realize that the break up with Ellen made a lot of people feel many things, but I have to say, I think you have a really great understanding of it.
Ellen and I had a three and a half year relationship that ended sadly, not because we were both women, but because we both wanted different things for our lives.
This NONSENSE about my mother praying for me is really making me angry. My mother never approved of my relationship with Ellen. Her hatred for our relationship is one of the many things that ultimately led to my breaking off all communication with her. (My mother, that is, not Ellen.)
The "Ex-gay" events that are going on right now make me sick. The fact that my mother is using my name to promote this movement makes me even sicker. I could not disagree more adamanty with what she and her group of unloving, unaccepting, Bible preaching hate mongers are doing. I do not believe that homosexuality is something that should be brainwashed out of someone. I do not believe that homosexuality should be anything but celebrated if that is the thing that makes an individual feel good about their life. I believe, as I have always said, that people should love who they want to love.
And for anyone who ever thought that Ellen and I broke it off becuase of sexuality, you couldn't be more mistaken. And for anyone who thought my mother's prayers had anything to do with me marrying a man, forget it. I can safely say that my mother has nothing to do with any decision I make. It has always disturbed me the way religion can twist something to make people feel badly about themselves. Isn't a loving heart an accepting, caring heart? Certainly my mother has never been "loving." But that's just my humble opinion.

High School Drama Class |
Dear Ms. Heche, I am a High School Drama Teacher in Central California at a small town called Coalinga. We are located about 50 miles southwest of Fresno. I took over a floundering Drama department two years ago that constisted of 20 - 25 kids who never performed for the school or the community. I was/am determined to build up this program into something great! We have a beautiful old theatre that was built in the 1920's, and although the lighting and sound have never been updated, it has a beautiful balcony and the theatre holds around 1,000 people. In fact, in our theatre, the late Louis Armstrong once performed. Two years ago when I started as Drama teacher, I began to recruit students into the program. We performed the musical "Bye Bye Birdie." It was a huge success!! Last year, over 80 students wanted to get into the program. It was awesome!! I am a huge fan of the theatre and my greatest desire is to have these students find an appreciation for it as well. They are developing new talents and confidence on a daily basis. Last year, we performed the musical Footloose and this year in the fall we are taking on "Once on this Island." I already have 68 kids signed up for auditions. We have fund-raised to take field trips all over the valley including to Fresno's Saroyan Theatre to see The Music Man. The entire class was able to go (over 50 students) and it cost us a few thousand dollars. It was money well spent. Many of my students had never, never seen live theatre before. They loved it. The reason I am writing you is because I appreciate your work in the theatre. I am trying to create a theatre museum for our high school in honor of The Arts everywhere to help my students develop a personal bond and appreciation for those who have lived and breathed and cared for the theatre at a professional level. I am petitioning you and other actors to send me any memory of you as an actor. An old shoe from a show, a scarf, a marker that you used to sign autographs, a hat or anything that you may have that we can put on display in our high school theatre. I know many things are probably sold on ebay for lots of money. We are not looking to make money and what you send us may seem very insignificant to you or others, but we are looking for anything, any real object or article of clothing, etc, that will link us to you and the theatre (Maybe a comb you used backstage). Your item will be displayed in the theatre showcase with a sign or plaque with your name and theatrical history. This is for a non-profit high school group that will benefit my students now and the many theatre students of the future. If there is anything you can do, please respond and I will send you a shipping address. Thank you so much, and if you want us to pay for shipping, we would be more than happy to. Thanks, Tom

What I just want to say is that for some reason you made me feel safe and for a moment in time I wasnt so alone anymore. I dont know how to ever thank you...but just so you know I will always be your fan... I will always be in your corner for what ever that's worth... Courage To Be You |
Anne,
I just finished reading your book Call Me Crazy. I won't go into all my thoughts because this would be too long and arduous of a post. I have not been subjected to physical or sexual abuse as you were, but I am a victim of emotional abuse and so I can relate in some small way. You have travelled through miles and mountains and rivers and oceans of hard work to be the person you are today. There are criticisms that can be easily made about some of the methods you used or the manners in which certain revelations were arrived upon. I won't make those criticisms because I can't imagine surviving what you have survived. The fact that you are still with us is testament to the strength of your character.
I am a little surprised that you didn't seem to see the parallels between your most famous relationship and your relationship with your mother. I kept waiting for that insight. I don't think it was an accident you entered into that relationship after the famous Conversation with your mother about your father's abuse. You might want to take a closer look at that. Otherwise, bless you and your recovery which I'm sure is ongoing. |

Thanks Anne, I'm an actor because of you... |
Hi Anne,
Great site here. Hope you get to read this...
I've always wanted to be an actor and in my final year of high school, I saw you in 'Six Days Seven Nights', and then with Vince Vaughn twice in 'Psycho' and 'Return to Paradise' - both of which are two of my all time favorite films...
The work you did in those films, and Vince too, was one of the reasons (along wth some tough life experiences) I actually decided to go for it and since graduating from university, I immediately started studying acting and began writing my first screenplay.
Not sure if you know, but the Australian Film/TV industry isn't in good shape, and work opportunity is rare, but despite that, in only a year in our industry I racked up several roles in various short films, a lead in an indie feature and all while having you and Vince as my inspiration...
Then early this year FINALLY, 'Birth' came out of which I saw twice and let me say, your performance was amazing! Clara was unnerving, so bitter, and the second time I watched the film, and new what your character really wanted, I saw the motivations in every scene you were in. You had SO much going on and for such a small role, you created a full living, breathing human being - which in the end is what actors are supposed to do... And you got to work with Nicole Kidman - don't know who's luckier out of the two of you.
So not much else to say except thanks Anne, please keep working, I can't get to New York to see you on Broadway so you're going to have to do more films please! :) As for me, once I get a little more experience, I'll be heading over to LA just like Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Kidman, Crowe and all the other Aussie's just because the industry isn't big enough here to make a career... I'm going be an actor, or die trying, I love it too much!
I'd also like to ask you, do you have a favorite character you've played? You prob can't pick one; I like Beth from 'Return to Paradise' because she was driven to save someone's life. That was her goal and she went for it as best she could even if in the end she got the wrong result but ended up in love - sometimes life plays cruel tricks on us...
Thanks so much for reading. Cheers, Adam. PS: You and Vince should do another film together. |
