Great Russ!  The colour is beautiful!  Today, after weeks of rain there is a break in the clouds!  This looks like Nexon Beach at the south end of town...  Site of the filming (I am in), The Guard...  This is where the Equinox Rock Festival was held and the slack liners were venturing between the pillons!!!

Notice:

Tues. Sept. 2nd, 08 is a Public Hearing Op to oppose condo development at Second Ave. South

this photo looks west, 2 blocks to the site of another view blocking sun blocking tree removing bird ousting condo proposal:  where the vehicle is puttin the brake lights on!

Squamish Council would be so surprised to see the views of "outsiders" opposing condo development!  squamish.ca

September 02

THE BRICK WALL CONCEPT

The Majority of Squamish Council voted in favor of Third Reading for the condo development at Second Ave. and Vancouver St.

There was debate as to the number of storeys presently allowed and to be allowed.

3 storeys is to be allowed.  3 storeys is presently 35 feet
3 storeys will be 47 feet.  14.6 metres, or 4.7 storeys.

I nearly cried when describing the trees there.  I forgot the Oak.  A beautiful young oak, sided by apple trees and evergreen along Second Ave.

It is certain that in the Highlands 47 foot trees are removed by those Wanting to see the views.  Certainly 47 foot brick walls would be opposed in the Highlands.  47 foot brick walls that span a block.

Certainly nice to express my grief here over this loss of trees, home to my birds and the loss of the beauty of the views that have been part of my daily life for 30 years.

Squamish Council, Ladies and Gentlemen

After living at the south end of Squamish and enjoying the views there for most of the last 30 years I must speak in opposition to the re-zoning of the properties to accommodate another artisan village.

I must oppose the majority of Council members who have brought this to a Public Hearing.

Council members are elected to make the best choices for the people who live here and elect them.

Not to put the people of Squamish into debt to fund the infrastructure of new developments.

The word infrastructure is used at election time and said to be a priority.
At budget time it is on the:
“Get a loan for infrastructure” list.

The word environment is used at election time.
At re-zoning time it is on the:
“New environmentally friendly Green Buildings” list.

The word hydrology is used at election time.
At flood time it is on the:
“Must do something about it” list.

The south end of Squamish is one place here where floods happen. That is why the infrastructure is so important here.  The hydrology and infrastructure are out of control during a flood as is the budget.

There are deep ditches here, now.
Using piping to accommodate development by extending the property would not allow for the scrubbing action of the storm drain water in ditches.

I must mention that birds enjoy feeding and drinking in these ditches.
The birds enjoy nesting in the trees here.
It is common practice to cut trees down after nesting season ignoring the fact that birds return to a nest annually.
A tree is home to families of birds for as many generations as the life of the tree allows.
There are beautiful apple trees here, which provide food.
The trees here are 30 or more years old.  These trees Alders, a beautiful young oak and Evergreens are home to many generations of birds.

For me, these trees buffer wonderfully and beautifully the view of the brick wall of the artisan village on the other corner of Second Ave.

These trees are well loved by the fans of the TV Series MEN IN TREES.  These trees are the beautiful scenery now for the TV Series The Guard I am a part of now.  The beautiful scenery is why the filming is done on the Squamish waterfront.

Re-zoning these lots will affect the views of those filming our beautiful waterfront.

Re-zoning these lots will affect the views of those who have invested in homes and businesses here for more than 30 years.

Re-zoning will affect infrastructure, the environment and the hydrology.

Each time an area is filled, compacted and left barren of trees the surrounding neighborhood floods.

The majority of the Squamish Council intends to replace with 14.6 metre, 47 foot, brick walls the views of trees and birds, mountains and waterfalls that are now free for all.
These brick walls will be the viewing area for those who can afford hundreds of thousand dollar windows.

I have said this before.

I must say it again because the majority of this Squamish Council is again voting in favor of re-zoning to accommodate developers.
The majority of this Squamish Council is again ignoring the views of the people in the neighborhood.

BRACKENDALE ART GALLERY

Dr. Ian Prattis presents his new book FAILSAFE

 Wed. Nov. 19 8 pm
With a forward by David Suzuki, Failsafe is a critical response to James Lovelock’s The Revenge of Gaia, which paints a darker picture for the future of humanity than does Prattis’ Failsafe. Prattis believes that while the situation is dire – and will likely get worse -- human beings are programmed literally with a failsafe, which will ultimately kick in, unleashed by our very will to survive.

“Failsafe” is a book that provides understanding of global eco-crises. It issues a call to change the existing world order by arriving at a deep spiritual understanding of what needs to be done. Step by step methods to transform our existing mindset are laid out to usher in a new era of planetary care, social justice and peace.

Zen teacher and Professor Emeritus Ian Prattis began teaching Anthropology and Religion at Carleton University in 1970. Fieldwork amongst North West Coast aboriginal populations and North Atlantic fishing communities was an early focus. His career trajectory has curved through mathematical models, development studies, hermeneutics, poetics and symbolic anthropology, to new science and consciousness studies. Prattis has studied Tibetan Buddhism, Vedic traditions, Christian meditation and Native American healing practices.

look familiar?!!

For Immediate Release

New book says the planet will be fine
It’s the people we should worry about…

Ottawa, ON – Humanity is hurtling towards a series of cataclysmic economic, social and ecological events that will take us to the brink of destruction, says a new book called Failsafe written by Carleton Professor Emeritus Dr. Ian PrattisOur hardwired instinct for self-preservation can save us, but only if it triggers new ways of thinking, being and interacting the book contends.  Failsafe is being released this month (Manor House Publishing, October 2008, $24.95) just as, coincidentally, the world’s economies flirt with collapse. The book is available in Chapters/Indigo stores across Canada as well as on their website and that of Amazon.

The book provides an in-depth understanding of global eco-crises and issues a call to change the existing world order by arriving at a deep spiritual understanding of what needs to be done. Step by step methods are laid out on how to usher in a new era of planetary care, social justice and peace.

“Can we fix the planet?” asks the author. “This is the wrong question. Our present values and patterns of consumption are the architects of the present global emergency. The right question is can we fix ourselves?”

Failsafe describes how human ignorance will rule until the global situation deteriorates to a breaking point.  This breaking point will then act as a catalyst, activating consciousness so it is propelled into expansion, deliberation and change.

“In Failsafe, Ian Prattis offers a way to a perceptual transformation that is absolutely critical if we are to find a truly sustainable future,” says iconic science broadcaster and environmental activist, David Suzuki.

The book shows that we have the capacity to make positive changes: That there is hope for future generations to occupy a healthy planet and faith in the human consciousness to save the planet. Failsafe provides examples and guidance for transformation and change.

Besides being a Professor Emeritus at Carleton in Ottawa, Dr. Prattis is also the founder of Friends for Peace - a coalition of environmental groups that works for peace and planetary care.  Please visit www.failsafebook.com to learn more.

to Squamish Council

thanks to YOU!

I appreciate your remarks Tommy...  re:  the Ellen show vs the Lword...
I too am always amazed at the kindness I hear in what Ms. Heche Has to Say!

Now I must continue with the politics of Elmo Scenery
Here's the Venice Concept

the water on the right of the photo is the Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
on it are the Yacht Club, (Elmo Radio)
drawn in on the south tip on the right are a marina and a cruise ship terminal
(dreaded dredging)!  (MERCURY)!
THE NARROW CHANNEL IN THE MIDDLE IS CATTERMOLE
In these it is ReJoined to the Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
the road and land between become a bridge at the Yacht Club, ReJoined!

The road to the left of the narrow Cattermole is
Third Ave and extends to the Squamish Terminals (freighters, oil spill on the west sided!)
roads are drawn over Cattermole, which follows the track, the v of inner Cattermole is formed by the track and the road
the Squamish Terminals if for sale, has not enough business to need a road thru the "saved" west oil soaked side of the estuary, west of the track...
what is SO IMPORTANT is the land between Cattermole and the Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
of course it should be left alone with its' MERCURY SOAKED SOIL
BUT the plan is to develop it with as much density as Squamish
or MORE DENSITY THAN SQUAMISH!
NO OPTION TO LEAVE IT AS BEACH!
HOW DENSE IS THIS COUNCIL?  AS DENSE OR MORE DENSE THAN PREVIOUS SQUAMISH COUNCILS!!!???

LOOKIN SOUTH TOWARD THE SQUAMISH TERMINALS, ON
THIRD AVE. , CATTERMOLE WATERSIDE!
most romantic for our 2, lookin east and west with estuary round them, into each other!

NOV. 2008 THE MATCH MADE IN CATTERMOLE:  STRONG!!!  JAMES TUPPER ANNE HECHE HOMER, MEN IN TREES LOVED WORLDWIDE MEN IN TREES SCENERY, CATTERMOLE THE MOST FAMOUS KISS SITE LOVED WORLDWIDE!!!

hmmm our winter scene is gone...

Today I took this red hot flamin summer caribean jam photo of a Limbo Master!

some of the Chief in the background and the Howe Sound Inn where Ms. Heche stayed when filming Men In Trees

He Makes It!

Lots of photos on:

http://dpixd.spaces.live.com

and    http://seatoskyviews.spaces.live.com

click the photo to see it larger, click it again to see it in a slide show and choose Full Screen from your Tools drop down menu to see it in Full Screen...

I try to take lots with the Squamish Chief for YOU!

This hawk was with 3 others on the way to the Hevy Huups Slackline Festival

That's Mt. Garibaldi where we don't want a ski resort/golf course/city...

and the path goes to Nexon Beach, at the South end of Squamish where The Guard is filmed, just south of the Yacht Club which is the dock where the Elmo Radio Station was filmed...

and with no overhead balance line...  the slackliners have more fun!

That's Shannon Falls ...
