Hey Guys,
I had the day off today so I drove into Squamish & took some pictures of "Elmo". They weren't filming there today, but I did the chance to get to walk around & window shop; I even went into the Chieftain Pub for a drink!! I think the fans of Men in Trees will recognize a few of these places!

The Chieftain Hotel & Bar (I don't know why the picture came out lopsided)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The Chieftain again. The inside doesn't really look too much like the bar we see on TV, that's a set, but it was nice in there. They have a small dance floor, a pool table, & yes they DO have those little black straws that Marin was "smoking". I just ordered a 7-Up because I still had to drive home, but I knew I had to go in there for a drink!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The boat & small plane dock we see in every episode (isnt this also where they all jumped into the water for their poler bear swim?)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The train tracks where marin & Jack walked together in episode #3. I think they actually walked in the other direction, but the sun was in my eyes from that angle...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The bench from last week's episode...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This is an actual bookstore right across the street from the Chieftain Pub. I think this is where they filmed Marin's book  signing scene in the pilot episode ~ it looks exactly like it!!!

I couldn't find the yellow house they use for the Inn that Marin & Sarah live in, but I'm pretty sure that it's in Squamish as well...I also didn't see "Elvis" ~ the raccoon!

The little town of Squamish is very small, it makes Elmo look big on TV! It's about a 2 hours drive from where I live, but it's a beautiful drive all along Vancouver's coast line. I took my video camera as well & I shot some video of the town. I uploaded it & edited it down to only 1 min 20 seconds so it can be emailed. If anyone wants to see it, you'll have to emal me & I'll send it to you...I don't know how to post a link for it here...you also need RealPLayer to watch it.
Enjoy!!!
Suzanne

It was probably kind of crowded too.I remember the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston,back in the 80's when they were still filming "Cheers"!

Suzanne! Those pictures are GREAT! Thank you soooooo much for sharing them. Getting to see these places in life had to be so awesome for you. You did such a good job with them!

I think my fave is the one of the boat dock, you can see the mountain in the background and it's just beautiful.

I hope you get to make it up there sometime when they're filming. We're all living vicariously through you.

~~~Suzanne, thanks so much for posting these photos. I'm so glad it was such a
*picture perfect* day. Did you chat with any of the residents? I'd love to know how they feel
now that their little village has become famous.
Was the air as clean & crisp as it feels in your photos?
Also, I'd love to know how cold that water was when Anne jumped in. The shot of the dock is my fav too!
Thanks everyone, I'm so happy you like the pictures! It was a fun day!!! I wasn't even sure I was heading in the right direction until I suddenly saw the Chieftain ~ then I got excited!!!
And Katie:
Not really. I did speak to a few people but I didn't ask about Men in Trees. Looking back, I don't know why I didn't ask, I'm curious myself.
Was the air as clean & crisp as it feels in your photos?
It was so warm yesterday! I think a lot of people believe that it's cold up here, but it isn't. The snow that you see on the ground in the show isn't real. People are still walking around here in shorts & t-shirts. The temperature gage in my car was reading 78 degrees yesterday in "Elmo"
I'd love to know how cold that water was when Anne jumped in.
Me too Katie, but I couldn't get close enough to feel the water. It's a private yaght club & you need a key to enter the dock. My bet is, the water is COLD!
Suzanne,
Thanks a lot for the great pictures! And I am glad you took a photo of the Cheftain Pub.
Like I mentioned in your other thread, I took some pictures in Squamish in July when I was in Vancouver on business, mainly around the water areas. I drove up to Squamish and spent all of 30 minutes aimlessly driving around looking for the Cheftain Pub and never found it. Of course, MIT had not aired yet so I only had a couple of promo photos to figure out where they had filmed the pilot. I only took a few pictures (the co-worker who was with me was wondering what in the world I was doing and why I had diverted to Squamish. Plus he was in a hurry to get back to Vancouver for we both had planes to catch back to the states).
Anyway, by dumb luck, I think I may have found the same boat yard--
Here is another shot I think I took around by the railroad tracks--
You know how Anne is always saying how beautiful BC is and that she loves being where she is. Here is why. We stumpled across two amazing waterfalls not far from Squamish (Shannon Falls and Brandywine Falls). I wonder if they will be filming at these locations in Season 1.
Thanks again Suzanne. You need to go there again on a day when they are filming MIT.
Russ
Yes, Russ, that picture pf the dock looks exactly like the one I took yesterday!!! That's great!!!! How did you miss the Chieftain then, it's right across the street from the dock??? Unless there are two docks that look exactly alike? But if you were at the dock & at the train tracks, you had to have seen the Chirftain?? Maybe they were renovating it at the time? You'll have to come back for another visit!!!Squamish is a long way out, I dont blame you for not staying, especially if you had to catch a plane; it's about a 3-hour drive to the airport! (YVR)
Breath-taking pix, Russ. Thanks for sharing! And, since the show hadn't even aired yet, you really were dead-on with your eye.
I know Suzanne. After I had seen what the Cheftain looks like, with the big sign out front and all, I wonder how in the world I missed it. I did read later that it was undergoing rennovation at that time, so maybe the sign was removed. But there were no pictures of the actual Pub that I had seen before my trip, so I had no idea what it looked like.
The dock area does look like the same location. We shot them at different angles, but I can see the same white row boat in both pictures.
You know Russ, now that I'm thinking about it, the dock isn't right across the street from the hotel, I was wrong. It is a little further up so it's very possible that you could have missed the Chieftain, especially if the sign wasn't on it ~ I've read that it's been recently renovated. I agree with what someone else said though, you took amazing pictures for someone who hadn't seen the show at the time!!! I hope you're able to visit Squamish again if you're back in Vancouver.
They'd probably complain about all the big city punks and their cameras coming in,dumping trash,and bringing down property values!
You'd think that the town would really like the publicity that goes along with Men In Trees. When they came to town here to film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, everyone was so stoked. Will Ferrell was here at the race, and they did some filming before the race while all the fans were there and in the stands, everyone loved it. It's all the local media could talk about.
I would think that Men In Trees would be even better than that. It's a bit smaller than a motion picture. So you get the opportunity to be more up close with the crew/cast. How cool would that be?
It does do good for the local economy,but a lot of small towns just get neurotic when Hollywood's strangers come in,blocking traffic,drawing unruly tourists with the publicity,etc.
Now that I think about it, Suzanne. The pic you took in the bookstore, there was a woman there, talking on the phone behind the counter. Did you speak to her any? Or did she maybe ask why you were taking the pic? Just out of curiousity.....
I did speak to her Brandi. I went into the bookstore to look around, I didnt realize that it was the one they used on the show. I'm just a lover of bookstores & I usually can't walk past one without going in! Once I was inside, it looked too familiar to me & I had to take a picture of it!! The clerk was on the phone at the time & my camera is my cell phone so she just thought I was attempting to make a call. I don't think she realized I was taking a picture & I was not intending to have her be in the shot, it just worked out that way. I did buy three books that day though...LOL
Thanks Brandi. The phone is new, I actually upgraded to a camera phone before Anne's workshop here in case they wouldn't let me take a camera in there...LOL. I wish someone could have taken a picture of my face when I walked into that bookstore, totally unaware that I was going to recognize it! I got very excited! I'm glad you guys like the pictures, next time we'll all have to go together!
You too,Shari?Don't get Suzanne started on "Another World" though!You won't get any sleep tonight!I remember looking at a map of the Vancouver area,and coming across the area right down rt.99,onto 17 past Delta into Tsawassen.How does the U.S. enforce that crazy border line on top of Pt.Roberts?It's nothing but the tip of an isolated peninsula from our world.
